Mayors Back Immigration Reform

I had no hesitation attaching my name to this open letter from the U.S. Conference of Mayors calling for Congress to enact comprehensive, balanced immigration reform.

Although immigration remains a divisive subject on Capitol Hill, among municipal leaders of both parties there is broad consensus in support of the principles and goals in the letter.  Those of us most directly engaged in serving diverse constituencies and promoting public safety regard these measures as essential from both a moral and practical perspective.

Unfortunately, recent history suggests that such legislation has little chance of passage, at least given the current configuration of Congress.
